Blending of Co-Play & Independent Play: My Recipe of Homeschooling

“Homeschooling allows you the freedom to step off the highway of learning and take more scenic route along a dirt road”   –  Tamara L. Chilver

My two and a half year old is all set to join the school after few months but with this current situation of pandemic don’t think that things will go as planned.

So, how a kid going to learn while staying at home without connecting to the outside world, without that classroom teaching, and without those fixed scheduled learning.

We must know the answers to these questions before considering homeschooling for kids

Why a learning process requires a fix path?

Why we cant give our kid the freedom of imagination?

Each kid is different but way of teaching for them is same. Why?

Giving children freedom of thinking, freedom of imagination, and an independent environment to learn, can create magic in their learning process.

That’s what homeschooling is.

Now what you need for homeschooling?

This is my tried recipe for homeschooling:

  • Time from parents (not only mom): Yes mom & dad, you have to give your time to the child and be a kid again
  • Create an environment where they are free to learn through play because for preschoolers you can’t teach them by sitting at one place or by giving them a classroom environment.
  • Co-play or cooperative play induces social life skills in them and makes their conversation strong. Don’t expect that by just giving them some good homeschooling stuff, you get the results.

Give it a try, this will surly work for you too ! !

Ok, so here I am talking about independent + cooperative play together. You must be thinking both are opposites. Am I confused?

All we need to know is to use the above methods at the correct time. Sometimes a child needs your guidance in knowing or learning new things and some time they need their alone time to explore their creativity and imagination. So, both are having their own importance.

So, fellow parents no need to follow a highway of learning rather than find a scenic way of learning. It can be teaching your 5+year old making their own bed (it’s ok if they make it messy in the first few attempts) or make your toddler learning through play while showing them fruits or vegetables in the kitchen to showing them birds, trees, vehicles from the window.

I promise they will learn far better with you by their side than having those gadgets with them.

I am a mother of two and always thought of giving a good nature-friendly learning environment for homeschooling my kids. In that journey with step-by-step learning saw the magic of open-ended play/toys. Open-ended play/toys give a child to explore a vast imagination and creativity because open-ended toys don't come with an instruction manual. In addition to that, It allows children to be creative, role play, problem-solve, take risks, learn through trials and error, independent play, motor skill, leadership and so much more!! Our open-ended toys are nonbattery operated and made with nature-friendly materials. We are aware that we are taking from nature in the manufacturing process of our toys, hence we pledge to give nature in return by planting a sapling with the sale of each toy.
