6 Best Wooden Toys to Boost Creativity in a Child !!

My earlier blog was all about why to choose wooden toys for your child. Now let us know what are those 6 best wooden toys can be placed in a kid’s toy rack.

One thing I want to mention here before listing these 6 best wooden toys is that as an adult we see wooden toys just as blocks or some shapes but we can’t imagine what a child can do or create with those piece of wooden blocks.

  1. Wooden blocks

As soon as the child starts holding things, we can start with wooden blocks of different shapes and it does not matter if they are colored or not. Another beauty of wooden blocks is that they grow with the child. Just let them feel that natural wood.

Start with natural wooden blocks with no colour and later on they can be introduced with the coloured blocks, this helps in colour recognition too.

Those different shapes wooden blocks can be in the basic geometric shapes and at a later stage can be added with blocks in shapes of trees, buildings, cars, bridges, houses, mountains, and many more.

  1. Wooden animal figurines

Child between the age of 2 to 3 years old starts to recognize the things or objects around them. They start exploring things in the house and whenever they are out to play.

This is not the time to introduce them to 1234…  or ABCD…rather they will quickly learn the things they really see.

Wooden animal figurines can be a wonderful choice for independent play or pretend play. Children can learn names while playing with them. These are much better than battery-operated, noise-producing plastic toys.

  • You can also introduce each animal to the child according to:
    • The voice they make
    • Their habitat
    • Food they eat
    • Who is a fast runner
    • Who is slower in nature,
    • Which one is the tallest, and
    • Which is the smaller

This can help children to learn more about animals while they pretend play with them. In this way, the child has full control over the toy to explore imagination and creativity.

  1. Wooden cars

Please don’t give those remote-operated cars in your kid’s hand. That will be just a kid running behind a car where you can see your child all under the control of that toy car.

Wooden cars or any other vehicle make great toys for pretend play. You can see a kid making sounds of their own while playing with the wooden vehicle. That makes them more active while playing. Enhance their imagination because here the wooden car is going the path they are deciding.

  1. Wooden house figurines

Both girl or a boy child love pretend play. Kids can think about different stories while playing with pretend play toys.

Wooden houses make a wonderful addition in the pretend play toys. Wooden house figurines can be an office, hospital, school, zoo, house, theatre, malls, museum, ice cream shop and the list can go on.

With pretend play child learn social skills, it improves their conversation skills.

  1. Wooden tree figurines

Add this to the pretend play and the scene is complete with the trees around. Trees are the most important part of nature.

With wooden tree figurines, children can create cities, zoos, parks, and forests. Just see them knitting the stories around them and you will be surprised to see their imagination power and never-ending creativity.

  1. Wooden stackers

A wooden stacker will make the wooden toy collection perfect in every manner. Different shape stackers make every story complete.

Wooden stackers can be puzzles sometimes or a part of their pretend play. Since a complete stacker is made up of different sizes of wood, the child starts to recognize between bigger and smaller parts while arranging them.

Try to add these to your child’s toy collection and see the change.

I would love to hear your opinion or take on choosing a sustainable wooden toys for kids.

I am a mother of two and always thought of giving a good nature-friendly learning environment for homeschooling my kids. In that journey with step-by-step learning saw the magic of open-ended play/toys. Open-ended play/toys give a child to explore a vast imagination and creativity because open-ended toys don't come with an instruction manual. In addition to that, It allows children to be creative, role play, problem-solve, take risks, learn through trials and error, independent play, motor skill, leadership and so much more!! Our open-ended toys are nonbattery operated and made with nature-friendly materials. We are aware that we are taking from nature in the manufacturing process of our toys, hence we pledge to give nature in return by planting a sapling with the sale of each toy.
